Few individuals consciously recognize they’re balancing those two variables at all times.
2. People condemn manipulation—while constantly using it. Across cultures, manipulation is morally condemned. Yet in practice: flattery increases compliance; emotional framing beats factual argument; social proof shifts belief faster than evidence; moral outrage is strategically deployed to gain leverage.
