Summary:
• Immediate reincarnation is rare because life in the spiritual realm (Home) is far more joyful than life on Earth. A soul usually waits to reincarnate because it does not feel rushed and may not need to learn new lessons so soon.
• Immediate reincarnation can create a large age gap between loved ones in Earth. That age gap can make reconnecting with loved ones on Earth more difficult.
• Returning to Earth too soon can violate soul contracts made long before birth. Some human tragedies, while obviously painful, might be part of a soul contract meant to inspire growth or to help others. A loved one might not reincarnate immediately because doing so might interfere with your own life lessons.
• A deceased loved one might return in spirit form—as a benevolent presence or ghost—rather than reincarnating. However, even this may be prevented by a soul contract, if feeling that presence would change your life in ways that conflict with your own spiritual plan.
• Not reincarnating immediately does not mean that your loved ones are gone or no longer love
When a loved one dies an early death, you may desperately want that loved one to reincarnate immediately so that the two of you can meet again soon, in this lifetime. Although immediate reincarnations do occur, they are rare. They are rare for several good reasons.
In comparison to living on Earth, life is infinitely more joyous in the realm that Christians call Heaven, Muslims call Paradise, and many near-death experiencers call Home. According to some NDE testimonies, the emotion we call “longing” or “yearning” feels different in the spiritual realm. It feels different because the soul, without a human body, has a much greater, longer perspective than humans have. Time does not exist in the spiritual realm, and so the soul is not obsessed with anything immediate. A loved one who has recently returned to that realm (due to bodily death) has only two incentives to reincarnate immediately. One incentive is to learn more lessons on Earth, but the soul might not need to learn those lessons anytime soon. And if there is no immediate need, why rush to return?
The second incentive is to comfort grieving people on Earth. That second incentive may seem persuasive, but there are many variables involved and, therefore, accomplishing that goal is not always easy.
Imagine that you and somebody you love are both 20 years old and that, tragically, the loved one dies. If the person were to immediately reincarnate, then by the time that person grows up to be 20 years old (again), you will be 40 years old. Compared to that other person, you will have an additional two decades of life experiences, which is a generational difference. If the person died when you were even older, then the difference in ages after the reincarnation will be greater still. Perhaps the person will have some memories of the past lifetime, but probably not because such knowledge is unusual. And how is the reincarnated person supposed to meet you? The circumstances might be very difficult, or perhaps impossible, because every relationship is different. All relationships change. Relationships must change because the purpose of life on Earth is to learn, not for everything to stay the same.
A further problem with immediate reincarnation is that it may violate one or more soul contracts. There are countless possibilities. Imagine, for example, that the child of loving parents dies due to a cause that was preventable, such as a deadly disease that could be cured if more medical research into that disease were performed. So, the parents, after grieving the death of their child, then campaign for more medical research to find a cure. As a result, other parents and other children benefit. If the tragic death of the child had not occurred, the parents might never campaign to find a cure for that disease.
Such an exchange might seem outrageous: a child dies in exchange for parents campaigning for more medical research. But it looks outrageous only because you are looking at it from a human perspective, which is a limited perspective. The perspective of a non-material soul is much longer and broader.
Long before the child was born and before the parents were born, those three souls would have made a soul contract, including an agreement that the child would die young so that the parents would experience the emotions of the tragedy and then, as a result, help other parents and other children. Promoting more medical research is not the only purpose: the lives of the parents are meant to change because their priorities will change. They will better understand tragedy and grief; later, they will personally comfort other parents experiencing similar situations. Perhaps their child will later reincarnate, but to immediately reincarnate would change the plan made by their souls. A tragedy is always a tragedy, but a soul contract may include a tragedy as a necessary event, yes necessary, because at least one soul wants to experience grief and how to cope with the death of a loved one. A soul contract can be broken, but breaking one is unusual because that would violate the plan. And you are not the only one affected by the plan.
To comfort you, the soul of your deceased loved one could immediately return to Earth as a benevolent spirit; in other words, your loved one could return as a ghost. That is not the same as reincarnation and it can still violate a soul contract. The tragedy are you suffering might have a reason that prevents you from feeling the presence of benevolent spirits. Feeling their presence could change your behavior and also change your life, but those changes might not be what your soul contract has planned.
If someone you love has died and has not immediately reincarnated, this does not mean that reincarnation does not exist or that the soul of your loved one no longer loves you. And it does not mean that the tragedy of losing a loved one is not real, or that grieving is not necessary. Grieving is necessary. And the tragedy will always hurt: it will never fully heal as if it never happened. But you can move forward, because surviving from one day to the next is enough. And remember that your loved one is still alive, because the soul never dies. Your loved one in spirit form may already be visiting you.
